Today in Math we continued with our work on number patterns and pattern rules. This was our last class time for page 8 from the textbook, so students will now need to complete this work during UFW time or for homework. As always, they are welcome to sign out a textbook to bring home as long as they return it the next day.

In Science students continued creating their Wetland title pages as our summative assessment for the unit, using a mixture of writing and drawing to communicate their learning and understanding from the unit. We will have one more period to complete this work.

In Language Arts we finished reading the first chapter of The Boundless and began creating storyboards to represent and briefly describe important events, settings, and characters from each chapter.

As this novel took the real historical event of The Last Spike, and fictionalized it with different characters, an exciting avalanche, a fancy diamond-encrusted gold spike, and the addition of mythical sasquatches, students have been curious about what the actual event entailed. This is a helpful link for students to read to help clarify the true history.

We also had some independent reading time during DEAR, as well as a chance to preview the book fair. Our book fair buying time will be just before lunchtime on Wednesday, and students are welcome to bring money on this day with their parents' permission. The book fair will also be open during student-led conferences on Thursday evening and Friday daytime. The used book fair was not open during our preview time, but will be during our buying time on Wednesday as well as the other times the book fair is open. The used book fair provides a great opportunity for students to make affordable book purchases.

Students generally showed excellent behaviour during an assembly we had today, the purpose of which was to unveil the opera script that Valmai Goggin created with the assistance of the students of Hawkwood School. For today, teachers read the different parts, but all of these roles will ultimately be filled by students. The next step in the opera process is for the composer to work with the libretto to put the words to music.

In Social Studies we continued our exploration of the Cordillera region of Canada, considering some of its most important natural resources, physical features, and history.
