Welcome to the last week of school before winter break! We have a lot of fun and exciting things happening this week!

In Math today (after our usual number sentences) we played a fun whole class game called SNAKE. Students created a game board with five columns, each headed by a letter in SNAKE. For each column, the teacher rolled a pair of ten-sided dice, and the product of those numbers was the points students would receive. At any point in the column, students could choose to sit down for the rest of the column, locking in their points, which would keep their points safe but not allow them to earn any more. Once they sat down, they could not stand up again until we moved on to the next column. If at any point doubles were rolled, students who were still standing lost all points in that column. If snake eyes (double 1s) were rolled, then students standing lost all points in all columns. At the end of the E column, students totalled their points from all five columns, and the student with the highest overall score won. Students had a great time playing this game and practicing skills related to probability, multiplication, and addition!

We also spent time today doing parachute in Phys. Ed. (which is back to its usual schedule post-inline skating), working on finishing up holiday cards that we had started with our buddies last week, reading The Boundless, and working on unfinished work/quiet reading.

In Social Studies students began creating posters (alone or with a partner) to represent the important information about the Arctic region that they uncovered in their research.

A reminder that students voted to watch a movie on Thursday afternoon, as part of our positive choices reward, along with bringing in snacks. Students are permitted to bring a snack for just themselves or to share with the whole class. Please be aware that dietary restrictions in our class include nuts, gluten, gelatin, and meat. If you bring a food item including any of these, please ensure that they are labeled so that those students know not to eat them. Thank-you!

Another reminder that donations of money and/or non-perishable food items for the Food Bank can be brought to school up until Winter Break. So many Calgary families benefit from these generous donations, and it's wonderful to see the kindness that our Hawkwood community has shown and continues to show. Keep it up!
