Today we were very lucky to have three different special guests come and teach us!! The first was Ms. Sheri from CPAWS (Canadian Parks And Wilderness Society). Ms. Sheri was here to begin the Water Rangers program with us, highlighting why water is such a valuable resource and the ways that humans have negatively impacted our water supply and wetlands. We considered some different animals who are being affected by polluted wetlands, and we completed a demonstration in small groups about different pollutants that enter our rivers and wetlands, including paint, motor oil, windshield washer fluid, fertilizer, road salt, cow manure, soap, and soil. Ms. Sheri asked students to consider the following question at home tonight for homework: What can we do to help local wetlands survive and thrive? She will be back to continue working with us on Thursday, so students need to have ideas to answer this question by then.

Our second presentation was from Constable Tony, the school resource officer, and it was about bullying. We spent time discussing what bullying is (intentional, one-sided, repeated, and hurtful), and what we can do to help when bullying occurs (be inclusive, ask for help, check on people, be respectful, stand up for yourself and others, etc). Students will be taking the bullying pledge in the next few days to promise to be kind and help prevent bullying.

We also had our second inline skating class with Coach C. Skills we worked on today included skating backwards, using the heel brake to stop, gliding on one foot, and swerving around cones.

In addition to all of our special guests, we also spent some time on Math and Social Studies, as well as having time to read and catch up on unfinished work. In Math, Mr. Risdon handed out a study guide for Thursday's unit test. Reviewing the concepts on this study guide, as well as looking over work from this unit, will help students a lot in preparing for the test. If there are still concepts that students are uncertain about, they are encouraged to ask for help prior to Thursday's test. The study guide is available below in case paper copies have been misplaced. I also handed back marked Number unit tests for students to look over, but need to hold onto these for the time being to assist with report cards. I will send these tests home for parents to see next week. Thank-you for your patience in this.
