Today in Math we explored estimating products to solve problems. We reviewed when to use estimation, and went through the strategies of compatible numbers, compatible numbers with compensation, and front end rounding (which are the same strategies we've previously used in estimating sums and differences). We discussed how useful rounding at least one factor to a multiple of ten or one hundred is when it comes to estimation, as these numbers are easy to work with mentally. We began some practice problems involving estimating products, which we will continue tomorrow.

In French we reviewed clothing and colour vocabulary, and introduced the fashion show assignment that we will be presenting on Monday. Students put themselves into groups and designated at least two individuals as models. Each group member will take a turn with at least one speaking part, introducing the models and identifying different items of clothing that they are wearing.

In Language Arts we finished up our descriptive writing pre-assessment from yesterday, describing one of two scenes using interesting vocabulary, a variety of senses, and descriptive detail. Students were tasked with describing the scene in enough detail that readers who did not see the picture themselves would still have an accurate image of it in their minds. We also had a solid chunk of quiet reading/unfinished work time and finished chapter eleven in The Boundless, adding to our story board for this latest chapter.

In Science, students explored different ways to connect a battery, lightbulb and wire, predicting and then testing which configurations would cause the lightbulb to light up and which would not. Then we began labelling the parts of a battery and lightbulb, and will move into discussing which parts of the battery and bulb need to come into contact in order to create a complete circuit next class. Students made some interesting observations about the circuits they created!

A reminder that we are still looking for volunteers for all of our Winsport days, as well as for our Glenbow Museum field trip. Signup Genius links for both trips have already been emailed out to registered volunteers. Please consider supporting your child's learning by helping out on these trips! All volunteers require up to date security clearances through the school. Please check with the office if you are unsure if you have a valid clearance.

I am still waiting for Winsport forms for six students and signed report card envelopes for four. Please ensure that these are completed and returned before the end of the month. Thank-you so much!

The science fair is tomorrow! Please make sure you bring your trifold and log book to the Hawksnest to set up as soon as you get to school! We look forward to seeing all of these projects that students have worked so hard on, and encourage parents to come and check it out too! Thank-you for all of the support provided at home in order to complete these projects!
