Hello again Grade 5 Families!

To reiterate and expand upon the email that was sent out earlier today about our class meeting tomorrow on Google Meet:

Our meeting time is: Thursday, April 2 at 2:00 pm

Instructions for accessing Google Meet can be found here, and I will be sending the meeting link out tomorrow just before the meeting time via email. (I will email it to student and parent email accounts, so feel free to check whichever one is easier for you.) All you'll need to do is click on the link at 2:00 and log in using your educbe email address. I understand that not all students will be able to attend this virtual class meeting at the scheduled time. If that is the case for your family, please don't worry! The intention of this meeting is to explore this new platform, reconnect as a class, provide a space for students to share about what they've been up to, and start talking a little bit about what the next weeks might look like. I will also be recording this virtual meeting, and it should eventually be available for people to watch once our Google Classroom is set up. (We are anticipating having our Google Classroom ready for Monday, so students can expect virtual invites to this space then!)

It is important that students log on to this Google Meet using their educbe email addresses. It would also be helpful if you muted your microphone when you first enter the chat. It can be very hard to follow as the screen bounces back and forth to different sounds, and overlapping sounds make the feed a bit glitchy. I will ensure that students do get a chance to talk, but it will be easiest if I can just start first. There is also a typing chat feature that makes it a bit easier for multiple people to share at once.

The standard format of Google Meet does not show everyone at once, but instead shows the feed of the person currently making sounds. There is an extension that can be added to Google Chrome to allow a grid view that shows significantly more participants at once. Feel free to download this if you would like, but know that Google Meet will still work without it! It just might be a nice way to be able to see all of your classmates. It has been a while since we've been together!

Here are some more helpful and important tips:

Thank-you for your continued support, flexibility, and patience! I hope everyone is doing well, and I'm looking forward to our first class meeting tomorrow! It will certainly be a bit of an experiment as we try out this new platform!
